It is also known as Dole Yatra or Dol Purnima. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the regions of Bengal, Orissa, Assam etc. This is a Vaishnava festival, on this day, the devotees take Shri Krishna in a decorated palanquin and arrange a huge procession in the city, playing with colours and Gulal. In a way, it can be considered as the beginning of Holi.

Gaurang Mahaprabhu was born on Falgun Shukla Purnima i.e. on the eve of Holi. So one day before Holi we celebrate Gaurang Jayanti.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born 600 years ago in the village of Navdwip in West Bengal, now called Mayapur. Everyone used to call him Nimai as a child. People used to call them Gaurang, Gaur Hari, Gaur Sundar as being of Gauravarna.
